Your save is not deleted — it is version-locked
The pinned official thread states that EA saves are not compatible with Version 1.0, but EA progress is not lost and you can continue to play or visit your existing towns. When a 1.0 install loads, it starts a new save, which is why the old town looks like it disappeared.
An August 4 player who 'lost all my progress' after the update received the developer's standard answer: the town still exists and is playable through the dedicated legacy branch. A Chinese-language thread on August 3 received the same official reply in Chinese.
How to switch to the ggt_legacy branch
-
Open the game's properties
In your Steam library, right click Go-Go Town! and select Properties.
-
Open Game Versions & Betas
Choose Game Versions & Betas from the Properties menu.
-
Select ggt_legacy
Under Selected Game Version, choose ggt_legacy. Steam downloads the legacy build and your EA town becomes playable again.
-
Swap back anytime
To return to 1.0, set Selected Game Version back to Default Public Version. The developer notes you can jump between versions whenever you want.
Not from Early Access? Check these first
- If your town was created after the July 16 1.0 launch, the ggt_legacy branch will not bring it back, because legacy runs the Early Access build.
- Hotfixes 1.0.26290 and 1.0.26395 each fixed an exception that could stop a save from loading. Update the game before treating a current-version town as lost.
- The official PC save folder is %LOCALAPPDATA%/../LocalLow/Prideful Sloth/Go-Go Town! — copy that folder before experimenting with a current save.
- If a genuinely current-version save looks corrupted or empty, press F8 in game and submit feedback with your save attached, the same triage path the developers use for other save reports.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Did the Go-Go Town 1.0 update delete my Early Access save?
No. The pinned official thread says EA progress is not lost; EA saves are simply not compatible with 1.0 and remain playable on the ggt_legacy branch.
How do I play my old Go-Go Town town again?
Right click the game in your Steam library, open Properties, then Game Versions & Betas, and select ggt_legacy under Selected Game Version.
Can I move my Early Access town into 1.0?
No. The official position is that EA saves are not compatible with 1.0; 1.0 requires a new save with the revamped progression.
