Finish the tutorial, then stabilize one shop

Complete the tutorial before trying to redesign the whole map. It teaches manual gathering and crafting, how to place props, how to invite Townies, how EGO Tech purchases work, and how challenges are scheduled from the phone.

Your first reliable town loop is simple: collect a raw material, refine it into something a shop can sell, keep that shop stocked, and let tourists generate Coins. A working small loop is easier to diagnose than several half-built industries.

  1. Keep the first resource chain short

Place storage and the relevant refiner close enough that you can see where materials stop moving.

  2. Open one functioning shop

Choose a fitout, provide the goods it accepts, and confirm tourists can reach it by road.

  3. Watch the indicators

Building shells and crafters show when a requirement is missing or output storage is full.

Turn visitors into a workforce

Tourists are customers first, but satisfied visitors can also be invited to live in town. A recruited Townie needs housing before they can take a permanent role.

Assign early Townies where they remove a repeated manual job: gathering, refining, or shop work. Do not open more businesses than your current workers and stock can support.

  • Provide housing before counting a visitor as available labor.
  • Match the worker to the zone, refiner, shop, courier, or maintenance job you actually need.
  • If a shop is empty, trace its inputs before adding another worker elsewhere.

Coins build the town; EGO unlocks systems

Coins are earned through the town’s commercial activity and pay for construction and purchases. EGO is earned from tourists’ experience and is spent in EGO Tech or at certain traders.

The official beginner notes warn that both currencies have wallet caps. Schedule available challenges and spend with a current purpose instead of leaving a full wallet unable to collect more.

Automate only after the manual route works

Automation extends a working chain; it does not repair an incomplete one. First confirm resources can be gathered, refined, stored, delivered, and sold manually. Then add workers and couriers to those same steps.

Use the Build Menu pencil to move existing props, zone signs, and buildings when distances create unnecessary work. Vehicles help the mayor travel faster while the town is still partly manual.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What should I build first in Go-Go Town!?

Follow the tutorial and finish one complete resource-to-shop loop. A functioning small shop gives you a clear source of Coins and makes later worker and courier problems easier to diagnose.

Why is my shop not selling anything?

Check that the fitout has accepted stock, tourists can reach the building, and the production chain is not blocked by missing inputs or full storage.

Can I move buildings and zone signs later?

Yes. The official Getting Started page points to the pencil icon in the Build Menu for moving existing props, including zone signs and buildings.
