Go-Go Town! Photo Mode: How to Open It and Use the Camera

Where to find Photo Mode

Photo Mode is in the Emote Wheel. If you are playing an older PC build, update to 1.0.26502 or later before looking for it.

Frame the shot

Choose free camera to position the view using height and zoom, or orbit around your player. FOV changes how much of the scene fits in the frame; roll tilts the camera.

For a character portrait, orbit keeps the view centred on the player. For a town scene, try free camera to choose the angle. These are starting points, not a required setup.

Filters, time of day and a clear screen

There are 14 filters to choose from. You can also set the time of day for the photo and hide the UI.

Try the lighting before picking a filter. The same street can look quite different with another time of day; you do not need to change its buildings to try another look.

Give the town something to do

Use Say Cheese to make nearby NPCs wave or cheer. Your Emote Wheel remains available inside Photo Mode, so you can add a smile or a frown to your own character.

Taking photos with friends

In co-op, a player using Photo Mode appears as a small camera drone. Other players can see where that camera is aiming and step into the shot.

Can I use Photo Mode on Switch?

PC has Photo Mode in 1.0.26502. The Nintendo update was awaiting approval on September 15, and no later release confirmation was found in the September 21 check.

Check the patch notes for platform-specific changes. A PC version number alone does not establish that the same features have reached Switch or Switch 2.
